The Dance Teachers’ Club of Boston, Inc. was founded in 1914, and its affiliate, the American Society of Teachers of Dancing, was established in 1879. As the oldest professional dance organization in the country, our objectives are to elevate and advance the art of dance in all its educational aspects and to encourage uniform methods of instruction.
Dance Education Training Course is a program designed to offer structure and guidance to dancers who have aspirations of becoming dance educators themselves. Offered first in 1941, our goal is to provide an “Introduction To The Teaching Of Dance.”
The course is divided into two levels presented over two summers and incorporates training and study skills for teaching beginners through advanced dance students. Serious, dedicated dance students who study with member teachers are prime candidates for this intensive training program. DETC is also open to member teachers and non-member dancers.
2026 Program:
DETC is offered for 4 days. Our program features intensive training in the instruction of Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern and special classes in Children’s Work, Basic Teaching, Improv, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Ballroom & Dance Anatomy/Injury Prevention.
DETC is strictly an educational day program. Transportation and accommodations are the sole responsibility of the participant. Students are expected to provide their own lunch (with the exception of Friday); food is not provided as part of DETC.
